The Ceiling of Stars

The Lineworker's Headlamp

Halfway up a pole above a sleeping street, a lineworker holds a flashlight in her teeth to free both hands. She straps on a Lanternjack headlamp, and a clean white circle follows her eyes from wire to wire.

The Latchlight Door

Rain slicks the farmyard as a barn cat pickets the dark doorstep, fur dripping and patience thin. The Latchlight cat door glows amber at his approach and swings softly open, and he steps into the dry gold of home.

The Garden String Lights

A dark garden holds two empty chairs and a table set for a party that hasn't started. Emberstring lights wake along their wire one bulb at a time, and by the last bulb the whole yard is an invitation.
