Rain slicks the farmyard as a barn cat pickets the dark doorstep, fur dripping and patience thin. The Latchlight cat door glows amber at his approach and swings softly open, and he steps into the dry gold of home.

A carpenter runs her palm over a raw tabletop at home, the grain dull under workshop light. One wipe of Grainhouse wood oil and the timber flares to life, rings glowing like poured honey.
